When Sally-Peaches first came into the county shelter, she had rashes all over her belly and neck, along with inflamed ears and paws. Her poor paws were so itchy that she would often bite and lick them until they bled.
Often times, people don't adopt dogs that appear to have medical issues. So Sally-Peaches sat in the shelter for several weeks with a cone on her head to stop her from itching. The underlying cause of her itching was not being treated, so this poor girl suffered every minute of every day trying to scratch an itch she could no longer get to. The cone made her passage through her kennel door almost impossible, and she often had trouble eating and drinking.
Smiling Dog Rescue finally secured a foster home to get this girl some relief! Over the past several months, she has had to endure mittens on her paws, several vet visits, expensive medications to help her be comfortable, food elimination trials, and now extensive allergy testing. We are nearing the end of a very long road to recovery for Sally-Peaches and we need your help! Based on the results from her allergy tests, shots will be developed tailored specifically to what she is allergic to. Over time, these shots will help build up her immune system so she will no longer have to suffer. Bills for Sally-Peaches currently amount to over $1,000, and we estimate her shots will cost an additional $500. Please help us pay for Sally-Peaches medical bills and replenish our funds, so that we can continue our work of rescuing dogs in need.
And if you are interested in adopting Sally-Peaches.....here is more about her:
Sally-Peaches is estimated to be around 5 years old and weighs in around 70 lbs. She has the classic pit-bull character. She strains the leash to get to, and love on, children. Her attraction to, and protection of, children is striking. She is a natural babysitter. Sally-Peaches also enjoys the life of a pack dog, mixing in with dogs when care is taken for proper introduction. She is also very good with cats with a measured introduction. Indeed she currently mixes her life with 2 other dogs and 2 cats.
Sally-Peaches currently takes advantage of a number of dog beds – but her favorite spot is at the foot of the bed and will, on occasion, move up for a caress and a hug and then settle in next to you with a soft snuggle and a quiet snore. This girl can be a couch potato or a hike companion – temperatures permitting. She will stretch out at your feet or follow you through your house.
We often talk about dogs being lovers of humans. Sally-Peaches is epic on that account. Her foster dad says "Saying goodnight to her is a pleasure. Saying good-bye will be extremely difficult. This dog will steal your heart".
