Bella was found abandoned and with a fractured back at the Mayaguez airport. She was rescued and brought to me. I took her to the vet where they did x rays and said she is paralyzed. After a week I noticed she seemed to have some feeling so I went back and they said that yes she actually is a good candidate for surgery and a specialist was recommended. I went to the specialist in San Juan but he said too much time had passed and the fracture had already healed wrong and that surgery wasn't an option but that physical therapy could help her to walk again and I was referred to another specialist that does chiropractic, lasers and acupuncture. She's been 5 times so far and progresses so much each time but the cost is high and it's a two hour drive across the island 3 times a week. Weekly cost to get her there and for therapy is $255 and she'll need this until she starts walking again. She is also incontinent so baby diapers are a necessity for her as well and she goes through 4-5 a day. She also takes cranberry vitamin chews to stave off urinary tract infections. Her care is costly but this little dog deserves this chance to walk again and be a normal dog again. She's 6 years old and has a long life ahead of her.
