Gretchen is an 8 year old German Shepherd who was abandoned by the family she had loved for her entire life. She found herself in a shelter where she was immediately placed on death row, not only because of her age and breed, but also because of her hip dysphasia.
The vet felt she was too old for hip replacement surgery, so that basically signed her death warrant. That's when Furever Friends K9 Rescue stepped in and rescued her from certain death.
Gretchen is one of the sweetest girls that loves to cuddle, give kisses and even while in pain, she still loves to play with her foster brothers and sisters. She is currently under a pain management regimen that her vet has prescribed that includes Gabapentin and Carprofen, which help her to move a bit more freely. You can still see from watching her that there are still days when she moves a little slower and a little fussier than normal, but her desire to live a full life is strong, and we will do whatever we have to do in order to keep her comfortable.
Her monthly expenses for medications run at about $130, but we have no issue paying whatever the price is to keep her happy. We know that at some point she will lose the ability to walk, and when that day comes, we will look into getting her a wheelchair.
Please consider donating to Gretchen to help her manage the pain and be as comfortable and happy as possible.
