Athena is the leader at Aries Doberman Liberation rescue. She was saved when she was 6 weeks old and is now the one who welcomes all the new dogs into the rescue and helps teach them socialization skills as well as pack manners while they are here. In addition to this, she is also my Service Dog. This year, she has already battled Acute Liver Toxicity.
A week ago two new growths were noticed, one on her hind foot between her toes, and one on her front elbow. We have been monitoring it for a week and today the hind pad started to swell, so our Vet aspirated both sites and both came back abnormal. She is now scheduled for surgery Monday morning to have both growths removed and sent in for biopsy. The Vet thinks we have caught them early enough, but she does feel they need to come off immediately as she does suspect both are cancer.
The doberman rescue does all it can to save as many dogs as it can. Last yr we spent $11,000 in medical on dogs that came into the rescue. A lot of this came out of the personal pocket of the director. She does not turn away the dogs that are in dire need of medical help, even when they are not dobermans.
