Louie's story: This 10-month-old puppy just came in this weekend. He suffers from Mega Esophagus, and has a history of aspirated pneumonia. His family was not able to provide the kind of care he needs and made the very brave decision to let Bulldog Haven NW help. Thankfully we have some team members with quite a bit of experience with ME and we will be getting this boy healthy quick! He needs to eat sitting upright, and stay sitting upright for at least 30 minutes after he eats. One of our volunteers has made him a Bailey chair to make that possible. Louie is a smart boy, who loves his food, and he's learning quickly to relax and enjoy his chair. Once he's on a consistent and healthy feeding routine, then he'll need to be neutered before he'll be adoptable.

Unfortunately 10-month-old Louie had another episode of aspiration pneumonia and had to be hospitalized this week. Doctors are trying hard to figure out how to control and minimize food being regurgitated and ending up in his lungs. We are expecting Louie to recover from this, but not without great effort! Veterinary costs rise sky-high quickly with our special needs dogs as we run tests to determine underlying factors. Louie's medical bills this week are over $4,300!
