almost no shelter.) Professor Socrates may have once lived with whoever put the bit of clothing on him; or maybe, it was simply a well-intentioned passerby who wanted to provide him a bit of comfort. His past traumas are, and will always be, largely a mystery. But right now, we know that Professor Socrates is hurt, and he is suffering. There's really no easy way to put it – his body is riddled with diseases, and his soul is broken from extreme neglect. His face is the look of utter and total defeat. He's battling something serious in his eyes, which are cloudy, and gunk is coming out of the right one. He has Sarcoptic mange covering his body and the majority of his face, and his nails are long enough to give us the heebie-jeebies. He needs immediate treatment for ticks, fleas, and parasites, and there's a fear that he's developed a secondary skin infection that, unfortunately, takes longer to treat.
The reality of this very-deserving angel's condition is that it did not happen overnight. No; Poor Professor Socrates has been suffering and in much need of medical treatment for a LONG time. But thanks to some fast thinking of the individual who found him, this big baby has a never-ending line of people wanting and waiting to care for him. Now, Professor Socrates is seen – REALLY seen – for what he truly is: A special, one-of-a-kind Professor of Love, who is wise-beyond-his-years.
Professor Socrates has quickly become a rescue favorite – and it's not hard to understand why! Despite his horrific traumas, this special boy could not be MORE of a love-bug, who we are told greets his doctors with LOTS of tail wags and kisses. Please keep this special boy in your thoughts and prayers, and if you are able to assist with Professor Socrates' care, please consider donating to this fundraiser or sending him a special "get-well" item off his wishlist below. We will update everyone on his condition as he goes, thank you so much for your kindness and support.

This is Professor Socrates. He is what SHOULD be a 40-plus pound furbaby, who up until just days ago was kept alone, living day-in and day-out in the some of the worst conditions rescuers have ever seen.
At some point, a cruel individual made decided that this angel's life simply "wasn't that important" anymore. So they chained him up and walked away, leaving this precious angel to fend for himself with no food, water, or shelter. (Well, almost no shelter.) Professor Socrates may have once lived with whoever put the bit of clothing on him; or maybe, it was simply a well-intentioned passerby who wanted to provide him a bit of comfort.
