Neighbors heard the sounds of gunshots and immediately afterward, the gut-wrenching screaming of a dog in mortal pain. Miles was intentionally shot not once, but TWO times...
When a compassionate citizen rushed to his aid, they found him lying on the ground in a pool of blood. After being shot twice, Miles was left on the ground screaming in agony.
The first bullet had fractured his front right leg and the second had lodged in his back right leg. When a good samaritan rushed to his aid, they found that he was not alone. Miles’s former owners were there with him but quickly told his rescuer that they wanted nothing to do with him. They asked animal control to take him away for good. Miles was granted no care or compassion from the people he loved. Miles was then rushed to an overcrowded shelter that wanted to help but was unable to keep him alive due to an overwhelming wave of sick and injured dogs being taken into their care.
Austin Bulldog Rescue worked tirelessly to find a foster for this traumatized boy. He needed round-the-clock care as he was disoriented and completely unable to walk. Once he was able to be examined by a vet, we learned that the bullet in his front leg had completely shattered the bone, putting him at high risk for amputation. He would need a complex surgical procedure immediately in order to save his leg and, ultimately, his life.
Despite the horrific injuries Miles suffered at the hands of human beings, he has proven to be calm, gentle, and resilient. We cannot understand what would possess someone to attempt to take the life of such a sweet soul. Miles will not only need help to heal his psychological wounds, but he will also need very expensive surgery so that he will be able to walk again. Austin Bulldog Rescue has been overwhelmed with intakes from the month of December, many of whom require costly medical care. Frankly, our funds are depleted.
Miles’s surgery costs almost 7,000 dollars. We need your help to save this dog. Miles’s life was almost snuffed out by cruel humans who saw him as dispensable. Now his life and livelihood are on the line again.
Please consider giving any amount to help him get back on his feet and learn that humans can be good. We know you believe in this resilient guy as much as we do. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
