Emaciated and extremely pregnant, mama-to-be Stormy was abandoned outside of a local shelter, unwanted by her former owner. This sweet girl endured 12 hours of labor before requiring an emergency c-section to save her life and as many of her babies as possible.
Cane corso Stormy was recently left tied up outside of our local shelter, malnourished and very pregnant. The shelter was able to locate Stormy’s owner, but they informed the shelter that they did not want her back. Stormy had been abandoned. We do not know the circumstances around why Stormy was left at the shelter, but our hearts break for this poor, unwanted girl. We could not let Stormy stay in the shelter with her and her babies at risk of being euthanized, so Stormy was transferred into our care. This sweet girl was skin and bones. Because of how underweight Stormy was, we knew there might be complications with her pregnancy. Unfortunately, we weren’t wrong. When Stormy went into labor, no heartbeats could be detected on the ultrasound, and the vet was concerned that she had lost all of her babies. 12 grueling hours after beginning her labor, Stormy needed an emergency c-section. Only five of her puppies survived. We are so grateful for the dedicated vet team that saw Stormy through her turbulent delivery, and we are hoping for clear skies from here on out for Stormy and her babies.
Stormy is still recovering from her surgery, but so far mama and puppies are all doing great. We are working on putting a care plan in place for Stormy and her babies, and we will need lots of supplies to support this little family over the next eight weeks. We will also continue to help Stormy gain weight. We want to do everything we can for Stormy and her babies, but we need your help. Her emergency vet visit and c-section cost around $2300, and we would be so grateful for any assistance in covering her vet bills. Please consider donating any items from Stormy’s wishlist, or making a contribution to help us fund her care. Thank you so much for your support!
