All nine puppies in a newly birthed litter have fallen extremely ill with Giardia, a treacherous parasitic infection that wreaks havoc on the gastrointestinal tract and can be fatal if left untreated. These sweet babies are suffering from lethargy, poor appetite, dehydration, and diarrhea, and now three of the nine puppies have been hospitalized.
We were recently notified about a litter of puppies that had sadly fallen extremely ill. They are all suffering from a severe case of Giardia. Three of the nine puppies are currently being hospitalized. They are lethargic and dehydrated, have no appetite, and are experiencing severe diarrhea. These poor babies cannot keep on any weight, and they are now skin and bones. Giardia is an intestinal infection caused by a microscopic parasite. Dogs can become infected with Giardia by swallowing the parasite when it is in the cyst stage. The cyst then attaches to the wall of the intestine and transforms into the feeding stage. Giardia is not a huge cause for alarm when found in healthy adult dogs, however, this infection can be fatal in puppies due to their fragile bodies and underdeveloped immune systems. These puppies are suffering from all of the clinical signs of Giardia, which indicates that their intestines are likely covered with parasites. These poor babies need all the help they can get to fight this horrific infection. Their lives have only just begun, and we can’t give up on them now.
All of the puppies are receiving treatment for Giardia. Three of the nine puppies who are currently hospitalized are receiving around-the-clock observation, fluids, and anything else they might need. We are doing everything we can to get these sweet babies healthy again. Please consider donating any items from their wishlist, or helping us cover the cost of their care. We would be eternally grateful for your contribution. Thank you!
