Ashley Rose is a 6 lb 8-year-old purebred Maltese that was surrendered to Lovebugs Rescue after having been used for breeding for many years. Her previous owners saw her as nothing other than a money maker and because of that, she has been lived the majority of her life pregnant.
Lo and behold, Ashley Rose came to Lovebugs Rescue pregnant. Right off the bat, rescuers knew her birth could be complicated because she is both tiny, and an older mom-to-be. And well, she did great through her pregnancy, but her delivery was another story…
Ashley went into stage 1 labor and her first puppy was born breach 12 hours later. Her foster noticed two tiny feet sticking out and quickly pulled the puppy out to safety. Two hours went by and no sign of another puppy. After rushing her to the vet, doctors gave her a shot to help with her delivery, and then out came puppy number 2. Ashley received two more injections 30 minutes apart with no sign of delivery of puppy #3 as she was just too exhausted to go further. An X-ray showed TWO more puppies inside that were both headed in the wrong direction, breach. So, Ashley went into an emergency c-section to safely deliver puppies #3 and #4.
Ashley is doing great and her 4 puppies are nursing well. If Ashley did not have the assistance needed during her delivery, she and her puppies would not have made it. We are so excited for Ashley's days of being used for breeding to be a distant memory, and for her to finally live her life as a normal, happy, loved pup. However, caring for a family of five is far from cheap, and this doesn't even include Ashley's c-section cost! If you can, please consider donating to Mama Ashley and her babies' care. Thank you so much in advance for the love and support!
