Daisy and Caitlin came to Lovebugs Rescue from different situations, but with a similar medical issue as they were both victims of a vicious dog attack.
Daisy is a 9-week-old Jack Russell mix puppy who developed a mass on her shoulder shortly after rescuers brought her into their care. It turned out it was a dog bite and an abscess was developing underneath a healed scab. Daisy has since had the abscess drained and a drain tube was inserted, and she is expected to make a full recovery.
However, Caitlin's condition was more severe. Caitlin came from a hoarding situation and was very shy and shut down. Some sores had developed on her skin shortly after she became a Lovebug, and it turns out she too was a victim of a dog attack. She had two puncture wounds that penetrated into her spleen. When she underwent surgery, doctors discovered all of her organs adhered together from the trauma. She was in surgery for 4 hours to reconstruct the inside of her body. Caitlin is only 6 lbs, so you can probably imagine how delicate her surgery was.
