Rescuers took Ever in from the Walton County Animal Services, Florida back in October, knowing she was potentially hospice due to an ENORMOUS mass on her abdomen. And yes, their fears were founded when it was discovered that the mass was indeed malignant - and worse, cancer had metastasized throughout her body so it was only a matter of time until she would cross the Rainbow Bridge.
Fair enough - rescuers were committed to doing what they could for her to keep her comfortable and loved until her time came.
And she has been absolutely thriving in foster care. She's eating! And drinking! And playing with other dogs! She's SO HAPPY!
Then last night... the mass burst. It is now a huge gaping wound that will go septic (or bleed out) if left alone. BUT this is NOT a dog ready to go to the BRIDGE - she is still SO happy!!
Rescuers have two choices; they can humanely euthanize Ever, or they can remove the mass and give her potentially several more months of life to continue eating, drinking, playing, and being HAPPY.
Her foster mom is devastated at the thought of euthanizing her now - Ever is NOT ready to go.
Rescuers have a vet who will do the surgery at 11 am today if they give the go-ahead. And they will. But they are hoping that their friends will continue to support them in these decisions they make (for which they are so very grateful).
Because of YOU, we can make sure Ever keeps on being happy! The surgery will cost around $1,300. Yes, that's a lot of money for a dog who probably won't see her next Christmas, but for those who know her, it's a no-brainer. If you can help, thank you. And please share her story. Thank you so much!
