One year ago, Zion was adopted from the local animal shelter at 57 pounds. This past Friday, we were notified that he was back at the shelter, this time, weighing just 25 pounds. The staff was absolutely stunned when they saw this once healthy and happy boy that they knew, slowly walk through their doors with his head almost to the ground, all of his ribs visible and sores that covered his body from head to toe. It was clear that the people who had signed up to be his loving and caring family had, in reality, never really cared for him.
So, when we heard about Zion being returned and the condition that he was brought back in and immediately knew where he belonged: In our arms - and specifically, those of our vet partners at Spencer Springs Animal Hospital. ❤️
Doctors began running tests immediately and though we are still waiting on some of the results, luckily, Zion's fecal came back without any major red flags. His X-Rays showed no blockages/debris in his stomach or intestines and his bloodwork came back normal, except for low protein. He does, however, have sores covering his body from being left outside on cement day-in and day-out, in ADDITION to having experienced some sort of trauma to his tail that now needs to be amputated.
It's also clear that Zion has been starved: Today, our poor guy is horribly emaciated with ribs painfully jutting out of his sides. We need to help bring his weight and his protein levels back up to normal. However, he will need to be kept on a strict feeding schedule - as if he is fed too fast or too much he could be thrown into re-feeding syndrome, which would be fatal.
Zion will remain hospitalized for the time being, getting IV fluids, strong pain medication, and lots of love and care. His journey back to health will be a long one but we are committed to that. If you are interested in helping us with restoring life back into this sweet boy, you can do so by donating to his medical care and/or wishlist! Any type of generosity towards his case is SO appreciated, and needed! We thank you for your time and consideration, and we know Zion does too!

Zion thought his life was finally starting just over a year ago. He was chosen to be a part of someone's family, and he couldn’t wait to show them how much love he had to offer. Little did he know, this wasn’t a dream come true but more a nightmare that he wouldn’t be able to escape…
