We spotted this precious baby girl, now named Sushi, on the way home from work. Given how incredibly sweet and desensitized to humans this girl is, it is hard not to assume the worst - that she'd been dumped. What's more, the area where she was found is not typically popular amongst street dogs - as it is fairly bare and uninhabited so any food scraps and clean water are scarce.
Sushi is practically hairless, with much of her frail little body crusty and hard—caked in pus, open sores, and dead skin. Her eyes and feet are alarmingly swollen, indicating Pododermatitis (*inflammation of the feet/paws caused by an underlying disorder). Layer upon layer of bacteria coats her body, and sadly, her skin scrape confirmed Sarcoptic Mange—which, in turn, has also led to a secondary infection.
But that’s just the tip of this girl's medical iceberg. Besides the multitude of skin issues, Sushi is also severely dehydrated and alarmingly skinny. She's skin and bones, really; there's hardly any muscle mass left on her body whatsoever. Instead, she was covered head-to-toe in ticks and fleas—and somehow, they'd even gotten inside of her mouth. Vets counted over 100 ticks, just in her ears alone.
But now Sushi is here, she is safe, and she is seeing the doctors at Cumberland Valley Animal Hospital as we type. Her mange and secondary infection will need weeks of diligent and routine daily medicated baths, antibiotics, and topical treatments. She needs a LOT of help, so every single bit of support towards her medical care is extremely appreciated. We will update everyone on Sushi's condition as she goes, thank you so much, everyone.

URGENT: This was not planned, but how do you leave a dog behind?! She was not born undeserving; she was not born unworthy of love and respect. Yet, she's been treated, time and time again, as if she was.
