Looking at this innocent boy and it’s difficult to fathom just how many people looked at him and not only turned a blind eye but also decided that he wasn’t worth saving. There is only so much suffering a living being can handle — emotionally AND physically — and Siberia’s skeletal body was just about to give up…
“Please, can you help this cat? I think he’s dying. He hasn’t moved all day.” This was the message we received from a concerned community member who saw Siberia. He was already too weak from hunger and his broken claws prevented him from even hunting to survive. He was sitting there waiting for the end to come….but then, we showed up. However, when we say we saved Siberia just in time…that is NOT an exaggeration.
This innocent boy has been slowly starving to death for a while now. In his desperation, he started eating birdseed and anything else to survive. It simply wasn’t enough, and he couldn’t process it. When our volunteer showed up, he pooped out leaves and birdseed. Siberia’s body was already starting to shut down. The reality is, if we showed up even an hour later, Siberia would not be here today…fighting for a do-over at life.
The good news is that Siberia is safe with us, but now the hardest part begins. We need to get his body out of starvation mode. Small meals multiple times a day, extra supplements, and medical treatments are what he needs. We need to monitor our little fighter very closely over the next couple of weeks to make sure that his organs are able to recover. A starving body takes its toll on the liver, kidneys, and his other organs that worked overtime trying to keep him alive. Progress is slow, as it is with many things. But, Siberia has the will to fight and he is getting stronger every day. As long as he continues to fight, we will be right there with him.
Undeniably, Siberia is a warrior. Although he has a LONG journey ahead, this boy has the will to live and we are doing everything we can to ensure we right all the wrongs done to him. Please send Siberia lots of love, well wishes, and prayers as he continues the fight for his life and if you are able, please consider making a small donation towards his life-saving care. Thank you so much for your kindness and we will continue to keep you updated on our little fighter’s progress!
