Now, we can only imagine the kind of trauma Balu has suffered from neglectful humans. He was running around for days with a gaping wound that was slowly decaying as he was feverishly eaten alive by an innumerable amount of parasites.Although we are still grieving from the multiple losses we have been through this week, saving and helping an innocent animal will not halt. Balu is a young pup who was ruthlessly abused when Near and Far Animal Foundation rescuers were alerted to this poor boy. Balu had been running for weeks and was fearful of humans when initial rescuers rushed to his aid. It's a miracle he's still alive, considering the severity of his injuries. He was nearly lifeless as It looks as though this poor pup was able to escape his abusers, but it came at a cost. From afar it looked like his collar has been painfully embedded into his neck, causing a massive open wound localized on his neck and upper back. The wound was raw and oozing, measuring over six inches long as well as wide, and filled with maggots. When rescuers arrived he Balu was nearly lifeless, too week to even stand as the the wound has clearly been infected for quite some time.
Rescuers had no idea what caused this kind of horrific wound, or just how long he had been running around trying to survive. The word around the area was that he was possibly attacked by another dog, and sadly he was left as a stray the wound festered. It's hard to imagine the pain Balu has endured. Without another moment passing, the rescuers took this sweet pup to the emergency vet, there they determined that the flesh around the wound was necrotic and with a possible secondary infection. The bad news did not stop there, sadly, due to the maggot infestation, fly eggs laid their eggs on hit moist skin and wounds that have hatch into larvae (maggots) that are now secreting enzymes and digesting cutaneous tissue. Myiasis is common in cats and dogs, especially in animals that are weakened, have urine-soaked skin, or are paretic.. Rescuers are shocked and heartbroken by the findings. How could someone leave this sweet pup to suffer so horrendously? Balu is currently being treated for his injuries and is still at the vet. They are trying their best to stabilize this sweet by, and things are still touch and go with his recovery. We will be sure to update you on this story as more information becomes available. We hope he makes a full recovery and finds his own loving, forever home. But he and NAFAF can't do it without your help.
Right now, Balu needs help with his medical fund and food for his ongoing care. He is severely malnourished, and he needs to gain all the strength he can to battle any infection that may result from his injuries. If you can, please donate to Balu's medical fund or send him a get-well wish. We are doing the best we can but we have been inundated with heartbreaking cases week after week- the need is neverending in rescuers but your donations truly make a difference. Although we cannot save them all we can do our best to make them as comfortable as possible so we help them along their recovery journey. So PLEASE consider donating today to help us help Balu!
Whether you share, gift, or donate to Balu, you will be saving his life in some way, we know it doesn't seem like much sometimes, but a simple share really does go a long way to giving animals a voice they otherwise would not have. Thank you so much for your time, compassion, and support.
