By the time Animal Control had found her, she’d battled to survive the mean streets for so long that now, she is skin and bones. She is severely dehydrated and malnourished – and if that wasn't bad enough, she can no longer walk. As hard as poor Pie tries to stand and walk sadly, they are failing her. Pie is paralyzed in her rear and has no feeling along with having a gruesome wound on her face.
Today, this girl is SAFE and receiving emergency care at VCA Advanced Specialty in Fishers, Indiana. She is still looking at quite a bit more diagnostic tests to answer all of the unknowns, but since getting to the hospital last night has undergone her first MRI and CT scan, as well as had the wound on her face operated on.
The neurosurgeon believes that Pie is likely NOT suffering from a neurological condition—instead, her paralysis appears to be due to heavy blunt-force trauma to her spine/back (similar to getting hit/struck from above; NOT from a car accident like originally suspected). What’s more, is that Pie’s injury appears to be old, and has since started healing incorrectly. Together, it means that it is very possible the heavy impact inflicted upon Pie was done on purpose, at the hands of a human. 😭
At this point, however, the exact cause of Pie’s immobility remains unknown. What IS known is that Pie is a paraplegic—meaning that she does have motion in her head, front legs, and part of her torso. She uses her front legs to pull herself around, swat at her toys, and to paw at humans for more attention. She absolutely loves to go outside and loves to play with toys—but above all, she is deserving of the world. This poor girl just desperately wants to be loved.
Pie needs a LOT of help, starting with her initial hospitalization yesterday – with the estimate of her bill coming out to over $4000 just for Day #1. And beyond this, she also needs extensive diagnostic testing and is looking at months of rehabilitation to learn to navigate life again. We are looking at over $10,000 in medical costs, in addition to the cost of her long-term care (food, diapers, pee pads, hygiene products, a soft bed, a walking harness, and a rear-support wheelchair for her).
Please keep praying and sending love, and if you're able to donate any amount toward Pie's medical care, it would be greatly appreciated. We will update everyone as soon as more is known. Thank you so much, everyone!

We pulled an urgent dog from IACS last night that was going to be euthanized for spinal cord injury/paralysis. It was initially thought she'd been hit by a car. She was adopted out from the same shelter in 2019 and has since apparently been re-homed twice, and after ending up back at the shelter this time, no one came forward to claim her.
