As an owner-surrender, poor Dahlia all but immediately hit the euthanasia list the second she got to the shelter. It is very possible that they were unable to afford care and felt they had no other option, but no matter the reason, we are heartbroken for Dahlia having to go through this without her family. She was in an enormous amount of pain, with her private parts significantly red and swollen; but while she might've been suffering, make no mistake. – Despite having absolutely no one and nothing to turn to, this little girl is a WARRIOR, through and through.
So, once we heard of this poor girl’s condition, we immediately jumped into action to create a treatment plan: She is suffering from a severe prolapsed vagina, with the only fix (and thus the only hope) being a complicated--and expensive--surgery. We knew we couldn't let her story end today, so we have a volunteer heading to the shelter as we speak to pick Dahlia up and take her in for an emergency spay surgery.
The surgery to repair Dahlia’s prolapsed vagina is estimated to cost around $1,000—not including anything needed for her post-op care or recovery care, nor her normal vetting (exams, bloodwork, vaccinations, etc.). She is facing a long period of recovery, starting with this emergency surgery—but she has SO many happy, healthy, pain-free years ahead of her.
Dahlia is unbelievably loving and gentle, in SPITE of her horrendous condition. She deserves all the chances we can provide—because, truly, she deserves the whole world (and how lucky are we that February just so happens to be Black Dog Awareness Month?!).
So, without further adieu, please join us in ensuring that Dahlia gets the necessary medical attention she needs. Every donation counts - no matter how big or small. Thank you for taking the time to listen and for showing your kindness during this difficult time!

Dahlia’s life made a complete 180 when she found herself abandoned and in searing pain, with her nether-regions violently popping out—abandoned in an overcrowded animal shelter in Houston, Texas, surrendered by the only family she's ever known.
