We knew we had to act fast to stop the infection from spreading up even more, rushing Coco in for emergency surgery that very day to have it amputated. But despite it all and though she is so young, this girl has SUCH a strong will to live—and, thanks to a dedicated team of skilled veterinary surgeons, Coco's surgery was (all things considered) a SUCCESS!
The cost of Coco's medical care was substantial, but We believe every animal deserves a second chance, and Coco is no exception. She is a fighter and deserves nothing more than her chance to live a long, happy life—a chance that today, because of SO many people, she is now getting.
And so, as we continue to nurse our girl back to health, we are reminded of the power of community. Of the power that it took to get Coco here, and to her future—and with your help, we can continue to do just that. We are a small (but mighty team) of animal lovers who work tirelessly to give every animal the care and attention they deserve.
Please donate what you can to help support Coco's recovery and ongoing medical care. Every share and every dollar counts and will go directly toward her care. More updates to come as Coco’s journey continues – thank you so much, everyone!

Until very recently, Coco has never known the meaning of Love. She has never had someone save her in her time of need, she has never had someone answer her cry for help, and she has never experienced any sort of kindness- let alone empathy.
It was a heartbreaking sight when we first saw Coco’s picture sent around by the staff of the BARC animal shelter. She had a severe laceration injury running down her right front leg and was brought into the shelter in so much pain, unable to bear to put any weight on it. We are still not quite sure what happened to this baby’s leg – nor did we know exactly what we were up against when we said “yes” to taking her in. All we knew was that the injuries sustained looked incredibly painful – and that without rescue intervention or offer of help, Coco’s only way out of the animal shelter would be through euthanasia.
The second we got to her though, we were hit by the full force of what we were dealing with. The stench got to us first. It was downright foul—and also a clear indication that infection had not just set-in, but it had already taken over Coco's leg. Then, in addition to the open wounds that were teeming with infection, X-rays revealed the leg to be badly broken. Which, all together, created SO much damage that surgeons determined the leg was not salvageable.
