About a month ago we picked up this sweet baby from the shelter. He has a semi-rare condition called perianal fistula. Too common in German Shepherds. Long story short it's open sores in, on, and around the anus. The treatment is very expensive, because the medication is $500 a month. He has to be on it 6-12 months. Possibly longer.
This dog deserves the world, especially since his previous owners ditched him at the shelter. But not at the expense of him being in pain. At the beginning of the medication we had really good days. Now that he's been on the medication for about a month or more we're starting to see more bad days occur more frequently. He sometimes can't get up in the middle of the night, I have to physically pick him up and he's about 80 pounds. Other times he's bouncing off the walls like the puppy he is.
We are headed into the vet this week to get a recheck. To see where we stand. I'm asking for donations to cover his vet visit and a month of medication. Anything helps. I'm pretty sure they'll have to do a culture and a couple basic things like blood work. So anything helps. Or just sharing this post for our sweet Mav. Thank you in advance for donations and wish list items to make Maverick more comfortable.
