An entire shelter was set for euthanasia in south Texas on 11/24/21 because of a holiday and people not willing to work. Yes, you read that correctly. Let that sink in. Death due to a holiday. This is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!!
Five dogs were left and we absolutely could not let them die for someone else’s convenience. Another was surrendered th morning so we took her too! Six dogs are on the road to a better life in Fort Worth thanks to a network of rescuers and volunteers who believe that these dogs matter.
So many have asked how they can help, so here’s your chance! Now that they are in our care, we are accepting monetary donations to cover transport, future medical needs, and have our wishlist with needed supplies. We have no idea what condition they are in and will find out more when they are able to be seen by our vet. We are so grateful for anything you are willing to give to help these six precious babies. Welcome to the Love & Paws family little ones- we already love you so much and your life matters.
11/27/21- All dogs received their first round of vaccines today, and unfortunately five were heartworm positive. We were not surprised due to how filthy they were upon arrival Wednesday night. They were covered in fleas and ticks :( We have updated the campaign to reflect their first round of vaccines, microchips for the two that were already spayed, and flea/tick prevention.
12/4/21- Jane hasn’t been feeling well, so we took her to the vet this morning. She was covered in ticks when she arrived in our care and hasn’t had an appetite either. The vet deemed her “critical” due to her blood levels and we were instructed to rush her to the emergency room. She is now staying in the ICU overnight to get fluids, IV medications, and further testing. They aren’t sure exactly what’s wrong, but they are assuming a raging infection from a tick borne illness. Her platelet count is dangerously low and they are concerned about spontaneous bleeding and inability to clot. Please keep Jane in your thoughts and prayers.
