Sweet Miller thought he hit the jackpot when he was adopted out of our rescue, but little did he know that just months later, he would be back…only this time, severely septic after ingesting a sock a whole WEEK earlier.
Every single day there seems to be a new story of a dog being dumped in a shelter, either injured or abused. We never expected one of those stories would be about one of our own adopted dogs. But here we are, sick to our stomachs because it did just happen to us. Miller was born in our rescue and is now 9 months old. His adopter knew he ingested something a week ago and when he got to the point of being so sick, she opted to take him to a shelter instead of reaching out to our rescue. The story gets a bit worse as this is the second time he has had an obstruction. The last was just 2 months ago and she brought him there are well where they performed the surgery for him.
Fast forward to yesterday when she brought him to the shelter and left, except this time he was in critical condition. The shelter reached out to us and we immediately went to get him to a hospital. It took almost 12 hours to stabilize him enough to get him into surgery. He is emaciated, had regurgitation that reeked of gastric fluids, and was in need of 3 plasma transfusions just to stabilize him. Once they got into surgery they took out an adult female sock. We will never understand why someone could know this happened and not reach out to us, but regardless of that, we are happy he is here now and getting the care he needs.
We will continue to keep you all updated on his prognosis, but until then, we would greatly appreciate your support towards his medical care by donating or sending a gift from his wishlist. Any and all donations are welcomed and we thank you in advance for your support and generosity!
