Every single day there seems to be a new story of a dog being dumped in a shelter, either injured or abused. We never expected one of those stories would be about one of our own adopted dogs. But here we are, sick to our stomachs because it did just happen to us. Miller was born in our rescue and is now 9 months old. His adopter knew he ingested something a week ago and when he got to the point of being so sick, she opted to take him to a shelter instead of reaching out to our rescue. The story gets a bit worse as this is the second time he has had an obstruction. The last was just 2 months ago and she brought him there are well where they performed the surgery for him.

Fast forward to yesterday when she brought him to the shelter and left, except this time he was in critical condition. The shelter reached out to us and we immediately went to get him to a hospital. It took almost 12 hours to stabilize him enough to get him into surgery. He is emaciated, had regurgitation that reeked of gastric fluids, and was in need of 3 plasma transfusions just to stabilize him. Once they got into surgery they took out an adult female sock. We will never understand why someone could know this happened and not reach out to us, but regardless of that, we are happy he is here now and getting the care he needs.

#GIVINGTUESDAY is a day of showing support to your favorite charities.

We have some of the most amazing supporters and today we wanted to explain a situation that occurred a few weeks ago so some can understand that behind the scenes is not always fun and puppies. It is stressful and heartbreaking but we pool together for these babies.The photos below are of our beloved puppy Miller from the Beer Litter. Miller was adopted back in May as a happy healthy 12 week old puppy. Let's fast forward to this month when we received a call from Lehigh Humane that one of our dogs was there and had a foreign body obstruction. Of course we begin to scramble as it is now closing time for them and we need to get our dog back to get medical attention. We were not mentally prepared for his condition.

We get it, things do happen and dogs can eat things they are not suppose to but in talking to staff there we discovered this was the 2nd time he had been brought there in a matter of two months for the same issue. The first time the shelter performed the surgery for $700. But this time the adopter left and left him there. We rushed Miller to Crown Vet. He was so scared, emaciated and not stable enough to go right in to surgery. It took several plasma transfusion and medications to stabilize him enough to go in to pull a sock out that had been in there for a week. Yes, he had been showing signs for A WEEK with no care sought. Miler made it through surgery and has been back with his original foster recovering.

We do our best to choose the right homes for our dogs and we had no reason to believe this would have been any different for Miller. To leave him at a shelter, despite them having a full care facility, in this condition is not OK. They knew for days he was sick, knew he likely ate something and waiting for almost a week. He would not have survived much longer. We stand by our dogs and we would have taken him right back. Millers surgery cost $5800 and that was with our discount. A cost that we didn't blink an eye at, nor have but we needed to save his life. ** Before anyone gets upset, we have made attempts to contact the adopter with no response so we have filed a complaint with Humane Law at The Lehigh County Humane and are awaiting contact from them. We also ask that you refrain from bashing this family on our thread as this has been stressful enough for everyone involved.

Sweet Miller thought he hit the jackpot when he was adopted out of our rescue, but little did he know that just months later, he would be back…only this time, severely septic after ingesting a sock a whole WEEK earlier. He had to undergo emergency life-saving surgery and is now recovering. He has a long road ahead of him but we expect a full recovery. Please consider donating to help us with this unexpected medical costs. No amount is too small. Thank you for your kindness and support.
