Meet Hershey. ❤️ — This handsome senior gentleman was abandoned in a backyard with other dogs, where they remained for weeks. A kind lady brought food for them every day or so; as much as she could, and we were able to help provide her with more food until we could get them all safely into Rescue. Hershey, however, was one of the emergent cases, and after weeks of being alone, was in even worse condition than anybody suspected.
He came to Rescue extremely dirty, with very bad, dry skin covering his alarmingly obese body. And at this point, his teeth are so infected and rotten that they are quite literally FALLING out of his mouth; he will scream in pain anytime another dog gets even remotely close to his face. (*For reference, out of the normally-42 teeth in dogs, Hershey has only 11 left.) And sadly enough, the untreated infection in his mouth got SO bad it ended up abscessing, with puss pockets forming under the jawline and underneath his eye sockets.
Hershey has been started on antibiotics and pain medication since coming into Rescue, along with becoming a "wet-food only" kinda guy — as he underwent a hefty surgery, to have the remaining infected teeth which had not yet rotted-off pulled. He was scared and shy on intake, as he was in SO much pain; but after his first dental he really came alive! 🙏
Hershey is an example of resilience despite hardship. Despite everything he has gone through, he still loves going outside and playing with squeaky toys as well as snuggling with those who show him love and kindness. Today, this little man LOVES to play alone and with other dogs, with people, and even with kitties. We think it's safe to say, snuggling is Hershey's most FAVORITE pastime (*hint-hint, nudge-nudge to his future Humans!).
We are asking for your kindness and support by way of donations so that Hershey can continue on his road to recovery. Your generous contributions will go towards dental surgery as well as follow-up care for Hershey, such as regular check-ups, medicine, food, and other supplies. Many people can come together to help make a difference; it only takes 1 to begin a movement. So please, everyone, consider making a donation today—every penny counts towards providing medical care for this sweet pup!
