We gathered a team of volunteers to meet the transporter and the 26 Poms, and loaded them up in our cars immediately to Chino Hills Animal Hospital to get them vaccinated. From there, we bathed them all and assigned them to foster homes. Since evaluating and assessing these dogs, it's clear to us that they were very neglected medically and behaviorally. All dogs have severe dental disease, many have patella issues (one even has an old injury that never properly healed), multiple females looked like they had just given birth and a couple have hernias/masses that need repairing. One dog even had ingested a large sewing needle in her mouth and had emergency surgery to remove it (thank goodness her foster noticed!). Many were malnourished and had diarrhea. And they all have severely itchy and dry skin from past flea allergy dermatitis and exposure.
Vetting these dogs will cost us about $20,000 as they all need spay/neuter, dental cleaning, microchips, vaccines, flea/tick; some need specialty surgeries like hernia, mass, possible luxating patella, and many need x-rays and bloodwork. Each dog will cost us several hundred to just do basic vetting and that's not including any of the specialty procedures they will need. All dogs are learning how to walk on a leash, play with toys and embrace human attention, but they still need major medical vetting to get them in a healthy place.
If you are at all able to donate to our Alphabet Poms as we call them (all 26 are named for every letter of the alphabet), we would be so greatly appreciative! It is because of generous animal lovers and supporters like you that we are able to complete this massive and unprecedented undertaking for our small rescue!

OC Pom Rescue received a call last week regarding a hoarding case in Northern California of 26 Pomeranians that needed placement and we couldn't say no.
