Suspected abuse is the cause of poor Birdee’s extensive injuries. It was clear by her fractures on BOTH of her femurs that this sweet soul had been used as a kicking target for quite some time. Each kick landed into her backside leading to her condition worsening.

So much time had gone by that this abuse had become normal to her, and her injuries repaired themselves but incorrectly. When we took her into our care we knew that this was going to be a case that required surgery, most likely multiple surgeries. These types of fractures are not repairable, and she will inevitably be crippled. 

We are unsure if amputation is in her future, but we are sure that she is going to need some physical rehab to learn how to deal with the injuries inflicted on her by an actual monster. Now, not only are we repairing a broken body- but a broken heart, luckily we pride ourselves in being good at that here at our rescue.
