A Good Samaritan found Nino walking along the woods by McKelvey Lake on Liberty Road on the East Side of Youngstown. He immediately noticed the horrific injury to his foot and scratches on his face and called dispatch. Our Deputy met the gentleman here at the pound and couldn't believe what he saw. It was as if he were attacked by another animal, and the flesh was gone entirely from his foot, exposing his bones.
This poor boy's condition was severe, and when we got the call, we immediately sprang into action. We then rushed to urgent care, where he was given antibiotics and had his foot bandaged. Unfortunately, the doctor notified us that the infection was extreme. So, the following day Nino went to a local vet and had a CBC Chem blood test done. Unfortunately, all of his levels are very low, and they could not give him the help he needs.
Our next option was to take Nino to Akron Med-vet for a blood transfusion. Furthermore, he will have surgery for amputation once his blood count rises. Sadly, there is nerve and tissue damage, so we can't save his leg, but tissue damage is a blessing in disguise since he can't feel the pain from the gruesome injury.
This pup is the sweetest little angel, and he deserves every chance at the best life from this day forward. Please keep Nino in your prayers and consider a life-saving donation that will help cover the cost of surgery. The estimate for Akron Med-vet alone is approximately $5,000, and we direly need your support. Thank you!
🚨 URGENT UPDATES🚨
Update: 3/25/22 His red blood cell count doubled overnight! Surgery is today to remove his leg. The surgeon said his foot was “degloved “ by an unknown trauma.
Update: 6:00 pm 3/24/22 if all goes well with the blood transfusion overnight Nino will have his leg amputated tomorrow. PLEASE SHARE!
