Each day Animal Charity investigates animal abuse, cruelty, neglect, hoarding and abandonment. We educate animal owners, donate pet food to those in need, and offer low-cost vaccinations and wellness care. The lives we save often come in by the dozens.
We use our offices to hold animals. We line the hallways with enclosures to accommodate the level of animals we intake. We close our lobby doors frequently to use that space for high numbers of animals in our care.
To be real with the community, we are simply running at a crisis level.
Mahoning County Commissioners granted us $252,000 to be spread over the course of the next 3 years to cover the cost of having a Humane Agent on the road in this community to do life-saving work. A portion of this grant also helps with the payroll for the Direct staff overseeing the daily care of these animals.
So, what do we need? What is the plan? What happens when there simply is no more space? What happens when the animal abuse in this county is so extreme that we need more options?
Our goal: Animal Charity of Ohio has located an existing building for sale. It is in Mahoning County. This building is on a WRTA accessible bus route. This building has direct routes to the heaviest areas of abuse. This building is in a safe location for our staff and animals, with the green space that is required to care for these animals. This building has room for our organization to be all under one roof with room to grow. We understand this building is not a flashy new building. We understand the appeal of shiny and new. We also feel repurposing, rehabilitating, and rehoming our organization is what we feel is the best use of funds donated.
What we need to move forward: We know we rely on donations to be able to get the animals the medical care, supplies and support that is needed. We cannot thank our community enough for the encouragement and support we receive for these amazing animal’s lives. However, we are on a deadline. To be able to purchase this space, we have a very short window to be able to raise $600,000.
How can I help?
If we can find 600 people to raise $1,000, we would meet our goal. If all our followers donated $30, we would hit our goal. If the 230,000 residents in Mahoning County donated $2.80, we would hit our goal.
How long do you have to raise this money?
We have a limited time to raise this money to purchase this space. 120 days. We understand that this is no time at all. However, there are lives depending on this and we will never give up. We will never turn down a challenge. We will never turn our backs on the abused, neglected, hoarded, and abandoned animals.
Please consider donating to Animal Charity of Ohio. Your support is needed now, more than ever before.
