Last week we were alerted about a cat who had been living in a vacant house that was now going on the market. We were told the kitty was young and in pretty good shape, but when we arrived at the scene, we came to find out this couldn’t be farther from the truth.
We found the sweet girl with heavy, matted fur disguising her skinny, frail, body. Her nails were curling over into her paw pads, and from what we gathered through the mess of information given, she is a 17-year-old senior gal.
Boots was loved by a lady who passed away in 2012. When she passed, her mom took over Boots’s primary care. A few years later, her mom passed away too. Over the past 4 years, the lady’s elderly father lived with the cat and their caretaker. About a month ago, the father was placed in assisted living, and Boots was left behind.
We took Boots straight to our vet and they immediately started working on her. Her blood panel was overall good but she has some early signs of kidney issues. She was drooling when we got her and we expected her mouth to be severely infected. Fortunately, we were wrong!
Surprisingly, she only needed 4 teeth removed and the rest are now polished and shiny. Her nails were cut and she had all the mats shaved off. They weighed 1/2 a pound. Boots is currently still at our vet and she will be picked up in the morning to go to her foster home.
Overall, even with such poor care, this girl is pretty healthy and we could not be happier that her outcome was this good! We don’t have a finalized bill for her yet but we imagine it will be $1000+ for her dental, hospitalization, etc.
Please consider donating to her care! We are in need of monetary and product donations! Thank you for your generosity.
