Napoleon needs to be on a strict, specialized refeeding diet that includes several small meals throughout the day to prevent dangerous refeeding syndrome, which occurs when a starving dog is fed too generously, often out of sympathy for the animal's condition. While a good-hearted act, it can prove disastrous for the dog, as consequential metabolic alterations occur as a result.
Sadly, refeeding syndrome can lead to anorexia, lethargy, anemia, diarrhea, increased heart rate, seizures, coma, and death. For this reason, Napoleon must be fed very slowly and can only handle one tablespoon of food every four hours. Over time, the ultimate goal is to help Napoleon regain healthy weight, including both muscle and fat, and strengthen his weakened immune system. We'd love for him to live a full and happy life without the perilous worries of starvation.
Please consider showing sweet Napoleon how much he's loved by sending a get-well gift from his wishlist, such as delicious food, fun toys, and health supplements. Animal Charity of Ohio is a 501c3 nonprofit organization and all donations are fully tax-deductible.

Napoleon is a severely emaciated and skeletal Mastiff who was rescued from the streets of northern Ohio near the Pennsylvania border.
This poor boy is thin as a rail and was rushed to the emergency animal hospital for urgent medical treatment. Along with being dangerously skinny, Napoleon is critically anemic and infested with intestinal parasites.
Napoleon is on his way to Animal Charity of Ohio where he will continue his journey toward recovery under our care. Sadly, Napoleon's scrawny and malnourished body is the result of cruelty and abuse by his former owner, who is currently facing animal cruelty charges and is subject to investigation by animal control officers.
