9-year-old Bulldog Bridget would have been euthanized immediately upon her arrival at a local shelter due to her multiple medical issues had we not stepped in to rescue her. Suffering from an upper respiratory infection, Demodex mange, a flea allergy, and heartworm, Bridget is now facing an uphill battle for her life.
Senior Bulldog Bridget was found having lived as a stray pup for some time after being abandoned on the streets. Upon arriving at a local shelter, Bridget, who is around nine years old, was immediately placed on a euthanasia list due to her multiple health issues. Fortunately, we were able to rescue her before her life was tragically cut short. Bridget is suffering from a horrible upper respiratory infection. After a trip to the vet, it was also determined that Bridget has Demodex mange, a flea allergy, and has sadly tested positive for heartworm. This poor girl is so incredibly uncomfortable. She has to work so hard just to breathe, and her skin is brutally itchy and inflamed. Her heartworm is especially concerning given her other medical issues, and we just hope we can get this girl healthy enough to fight the wretched parasitic disease before worms completely overtake her heart.
Bridget has all the telltale signs of a senior dog. She has aches and pains in her joints, she grunts when she breathes, and sometimes when she’s rolling on her back she can’t flip herself back over. The challenges of her age combined with all of her ailments have made this girl understandably grumpy. Bridget is the perfect caricature of a Bulldog. She is no more than eight inches tall at the hips, and no more than two feet long. Although on the tinier side, Bridget thinks she is one of the big dogs! We are convinced that once Bridget is feeling better, we will get to see much more of her spunky personality.
We need to clear up Bridget’s other health issues before she can begin treatment for her heartworm. Bridget is currently receiving antibiotics for her upper respiratory infection. She will begin on flea and tick medication, and she will be taking medicated baths for her mange. Bridget will need a great deal of support to recover, but we will do everything we can for this old girl. You can help Bridget by donating any items from her wishlist or contributing towards the cost of her medical care. We could not continue to care for animals such as Bridget without you, and we are so grateful for your support!
