A mama pup was recently found with her nine puppies who had gotten stuck in a concrete pit and were unable to get out. With many of her babies close to death and she herself gravely injured from protecting them, this mama pup was desperate for help.
A mama pup and her nine babies were found trapped in a concrete pit in the city of Makhachkala in Russia. The puppies were in terrible condition, and many were close to death. It seemed that they were stuck in the pit, and unable to get out. This entire family is suffering from a severe flea infestation, which puts the puppies at risk of becoming anemic if they aren’t already. The mama pup has a large wound on the side of her body. It seems she was attacked, although we are unsure if her wound was inflicted by a human or another animal. In either case, this mama was likely protecting her babies when she sustained the injury. Her wound is quite severe, with a large flap of flesh hanging from her side. We only hope it has not yet become infected. Despite being in a great deal of pain, this sweet girl never abandoned her puppies and made sure we were able to find them. A local volunteer was able to remove the puppies from the pit and we were able to organize a temporary place for them to stay. The foster will be closely monitoring the puppies to ensure that they are all eating and drinking enough. We suspect that the puppies are suffering from intestinal parasites, which are quite common, and will need medication. Our hope is to ultimately transport this little family to Moscow after they receive medical treatment.
The little family is currently in a temporary foster home. We are working on getting them in to see the vet as soon as possible, as the mama pup’s injury needs to be addressed. The puppies will also all receive deworming medication, and both mama and babies will need to be treated for fleas. The cost of their rescue, continued care, and medical treatment will be quite expensive, and we would greatly appreciate any assistance you can offer while we support this tiny family. Please consider donating any items from their wishlist, or making a contribution to help us cover the cost of their care. Thank you so much for your generosity.
