Ziggy Stardust is a homeless cat who was admitted to Red Oak Animal Shelter after being trapped in a barn by a local animal shelter.
He is a sweet and affectionate little guy who unfortunately tested positive for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), a feline virus comparable to HIV that attacks and weakens the immune system. Once a cat is infected with the FIV virus, it will remain infected for the rest of its life. However, it is not clear if all infected cats will become clinically ill.
It may be weeks, months, or even years after initial infection with FIV before a cat develops clinical signs of illness. For this reason, Ziggy Stardust needs regular vet exams to monitor his immune system and combat possible infections.
Ziggy Stardust has already battled multiple respiratory infections and urinary tract blockages despite being on an exclusive prescription diet. He's currently suffering from his third urinary tract blockage in less than one year and must undergo surgery to repair the blockage and prevent future complications.
