Per his doctors at the ER (though more X-rays and diagnostics are still needed to be certain) amputation may ultimately be Cyrus' ONLY option for a happy, healthy life—as not only has ALL of the tissue around the affected areas died but the dead tissue and infection have now reached his hip. And in addition to this, he is horribly underweight and - as revealed by initial bloodwork - positive for not one, but TWO different types of retroviruses: FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) AND FeLV (Feline Leukemia).
Cyrus remains hospitalized on pain meds, but since he is double-positive for FIV and FeLV, doctors determined it was best to wait to do any kind of procedure (as both viruses have left this already-weak boy with an even weaker immune system). So, he will continue being treated with a plethora of antibiotics and pain medication – and when his condition is more stable, will then be re-assessed for surgery.
He's got quite a hefty list of unrelated ailments that require various exams and treatments so truly, every single donation towards Cyrus' medical care is extremely appreciated. And while his road to recovery may be a long one, with the help of his wonderful foster, medical team, and his RPM Army, he FINALLY has hope for a happy life!
Please help Cyrus, in any way you can. We will update everyone as soon as more is known - thank you so much for your kindness and support!

We received a frantic message regarding a tiny, critically weak cat who was battling for his life, after somehow sustaining a severe injury to his leg - with his little remaining nub covered in necrotic, decayed, and rotting flesh.
Two eagle-eyed Good Samaritans (a mother-daughter duo) spotted this poor little guy just a few days ago. He was limping, making his way slowly along the side of the highway—an area better known to many working within animal welfare as one of the more popular ‘dumping grounds’ for animals in Greater Houston.
He was so weak he collapsed upon being put in the car. It is suspected Cyrus was attacked by a dog as there are multiple puncture wounds. (However, since the area he was found in is also a very high-traffic area - we cannot definitively rule-out the possibility that he was a victim of a hit-and-run.) Regardless of how it happened, though, this poor boy is now looking at the VERY big likelihood of he'll lose a leg.
