This poor, forlorn girl had been surviving (barely) on the streets for God-knows-how long—taking shelter in fallen debris in the bushes of a home on the North side of Youngstown. When we got to her, we were stunned. Stunned at both the heartbreaking amount of horrors Trina has clearly faced, and shocked at the shell of a dog she’d become because of them.
Standing before us was a horrifically emaciated, skin-and-bones, broken-down dog—accompanied by a mysteriously swollen underbelly. The had finder suspected that she might be pregnant and emaciated—the second we got to her, however, we realized that something else was going on. And despite already being up to our necks in medical and special needs cases, there was just NO we just could, in good conscience, leave her.
After safely coaxing Trina out of the bushes, we rushed her to MedVet Animal Hospital in Girad, Ohio, where doctors placed her in "critical care.” They immediately hooked her up to IV fluids and antibiotics, before getting her in for X-Rays to find out what was going on in that poor tummy of hers. – Which, heartbreakingly enough, revealed a HUGE hernia—developed slowly over time, engulfing her intestines as they did. And, as it turns out (per the X-rays), in efforts to ease the hunger pains, poor Trina had ALSO ingested rocks and pebbles that are now lodged within in her stomach.
Trina was transferred to Medvet in Akron, Ohio, yesterday evening so that we could be closer to her and ensure all her needs are met. As of now (if her condition holds up), she is scheduled to undergo extensive surgery in the next day or two, to remove the mass and repair the hernia—before which, she will also have bloodwork and more chest X-rays, and fluids. Her surgery and hospital stay are estimated to be $6,400-$7,400—all on TOP of her bill from the Medvet in Girard, which came out to $532.
We are begging, for Trina. She needs prayers; help; donations; quite literally, ANY support possible. Her medical expenses will be staggering – with this hospitalization and surgery estimate just the tip of the iceberg. Please keep this special fighter in your thoughts, and if you are able to assist with Trina’s care, please consider donating to this fundraiser or sending her a special "get-well" item off her wishlist below. Thank you for your kindness and support!
