The Good Samaritans were in shock at the state of this poor little guy, whose lower body was covered in red splotches – especially his poor paws. But after getting closer to the crate (and the dog still locked-inside), they realized the splotches were actually incredibly inflamed, blistering, raw skin, with bones jutting through the top. But the "why" of it all remained a mystery.–Was it due to a skin infection? Was it bacterial? Fungal, maybe? Or, was it something more sinister? …
And sadly, now we have our answer to our "what the heck causes this type of damage??" question: Inconceivably and inexplicably cruel torture. It's a hard pill to swallow, as these are terms we do not throw around lightly. But the evidence suggesting senseless brutality is overwhelming, and just could not be ignored. Per the vets, "Saint's feet were severely burned, likely from chemical exposure, and he was forced to walk on his wrists in his efforts to avoid the pain."
Saint's body score was a shocking 1/9 upon getting to the emergency hospital; he was in dire need of emergency medical intervention to save his life– and the sad truth of the matter is, he had been for quite some time now.
He remained at VECC for emergency treatment for the first few days; receiving round-the-clock care for his wounds, in addition to being treated for his severe malnutrition, dehydration, and anemia. Slowly but surely, he got better and better—so much so that he was stable enough to be transferred over to Spencer Springs Animal Hospital for continued treatment and recovery.
There, he needed treatments for his badly burned feet, as well as a slow feeding schedule to help him regain his strength safely. But with their steady help, and the promise of his foster family (who was eagerly waiting for him on the outside), Saint continued making positive progress. And flash-forward to today, this boy is looking (and feeling!) like a whole new boy.
His name is Saint because, in our minds, he is PERFECT. He is a survivor, and we're committed to giving him the loving home he deserves. Dr. Costa says his feet are already about 90% healed, and he's ready to start his new happy and carefree puppy life he SO deserves. After his wounds and injuries are fully healed, we will move onto getting this guy ready to find his Furever, and all that entails (including a neuter surgery, completing vaccinations, bloodwork, etc.)
Make no mistake. Saint is a warrior, through and through. We will never stop fighting to stop the abuse and nightmares that get thrust upon these poor, voiceless babies– just as it did Saint, here. We hope that animal control and the shelter will pursue a thorough investigation and hold those responsible accountable. But for now, we fight for the one who needs us most, Saint—continuing to do anything and everything in our power to help him thrive.
Please donate to help us continue our mission to end animal abuse and neglect. Together, we can make sure that no animal suffers as Saint did. Every single ounce of support, whether it be prayers, shares, or donations, is so very appreciated. Thank you so much, all.

Imagine being locked in a crate, living in your own filth, starving, and wounded. That was Saint's reality until some kind souls found him behind a La Bonita restaurant in Henderson, Las Vegas. He is only 7 months old, IF that, and weighed a meager 17 pounds.
