The Colorado Pet Pantry temporarily feeds Colorado pets, allowing families to increase their ability to care for pets with the goal of keeping them out of shelters and with their families. We assist thousands of families each year and the need is constantly increasing. In 2021, we distributed over 6,000,000 meals for cats and dogs. We're still tabulating our overall impact for 2022, but it's likely we served even more.
So many families rely on us to get from one day to the next during hard times, which is why it's such a crisis when inclement weather forces us to cancel food distribution events. Our area has been facing extreme weather recently - frigid temperatures, snow, and ice and since many of our events are outdoors, we've had to cancel them to keep everyone we work with - pets and their families, our volunteers and partners, safe. It's a difficult call because while cancelling these events means pet families don't have to navigate treacherous weather and roads or wait in long lines out doors, all of which can pose risks, it also means that families do not get their lifelines when they are counting on it.
As soon as the weather passes, we will ensure all the families we've missed get what they need, but having to have made due or gone without unexpectedly, we anticipate their need to be much higher than normal - not to mention the new families who will seek out our services as typically happens when people are faced with challenging circumstances. It will be essential that we have more supplies on hand than normal to ensure everyone gets back on their feet, feeling safe and secure so they don't start to consider desperate options such as shelter relinquishment.
Your donation can help us make certain that is the case - that families across Colorado feel supported and able to provide their furry family members with the essentials, even when life - and the weather - make it nearly impossible.

As the largest pet food pantry in the nation, it takes a tremendous amount of support to ensure families have what they need to stay together. Support comes from many places, but most importantly, from our own community. Please consider donating an item off of our wishlist today, to help keep Colorado's pets safe at home.
