Truce & Treaty

Truce and Treaty were found covered in scaly, damaged skin, with patches of fur missing and their bodies clearly in pain just from standing or stretching their legs. They were pulled from a county shelter mere minutes before they were set to be euthanized, victims of overcrowding in a facility with limited space and resources. These two mastiff-mix brothers, Truce at about one year old and Treaty around nine months, had never had a real chance to show anyone who they truly were, until our rescue came in and gave them a second chance.

Once safe, examinations revealed both brothers were suffering from demodectic mange, a condition that had left their skin irritated, inflamed, and severely uncomfortable, along with damaged, patchy coats. Left untreated, conditions like theirs can lead to painful secondary infections and serious complications, but with consistent medicated bathing and ongoing veterinary care, full recovery was absolutely within reach. Treaty was also found to have a cherry eye that would eventually need surgical correction. The two of them settled into treatment together, with calming music playing and plenty of rest as they began healing in a safe, loving environment for the first time in what was likely a very long while.

As their recovery progressed, each brother faced his own hurdles. Treaty initially struggled with his prescribed eye drops, so his care team switched him to an ointment, which he tolerated far better. Truce battled a stubborn upper respiratory infection that required a stronger antibiotic to finally get ahead of it. Treaty went on to have successful surgery to remove his cherry eye and a smooth post-op. He may look stoic in this picture, but he's a softie who is so excited to have recovered beautifully! While Truce continued healing in a foster home, learning for the first time what it meant to be safe and loved.

And now, with their health finally restored and their hair back better than ever, Truce and Treaty could take the greatest step in their journey: finding a forever home. Truce was transported to another rescue to begin his search for a forever family, and Treaty followed soon after to one of the partner rescues, both stepping into new beginnings full of hope.

Thanks to your support through CUDDLY, Truce and Treaty received the medical treatments, veterinary care, and surgery that gave them the peace their names were always meant to represent. Thank you to everyone who donated, shared their story, and helped carry these two brothers into this next chapter of their lives!
