Lola

This senior pup, Lola, was once sentenced to euthanasia when she arrived at the shelter completely emaciated with chronic illnesses and severe injuries. Rescuers intervened just in time and helped turn her life around. Read on to learn about Lola's incredible transformation and the heartwarming conclusion to her story!

Lola, an elderly pup, had endured an unspeakably harsh life. When she was brought into a local shelter, she was exhausted, starving, and suffering from diabetes, cataracts, a heart murmur, and multiple wounds on her legs. Her condition was so severe that the shelter staff listed her for euthanasia. Due to her age, chronic illnesses, and her terrible state, they deemed her unadoptable. They also just didn’t have the resources available to care for her.

Fortunately, in a desperate plea to save her life, shelter workers reached out to us. Despite already being overwhelmed with expenses and other animals in need, we couldn't let Lola's story end there. We quickly arranged for a foster home and rushed to her side. When we first saw Lola, our hearts shattered; she was nothing but skin and bones, clearly having endured severe neglect and starvation. Carefully, we scooped up her fragile frame and whisked her away into our care. 

We immediately took her to our trusted vet, where she was thoroughly assessed. Lola's glucose levels were alarmingly high and she was dangerously dehydrated. The vet staff worked tirelessly to stabilize her condition, and after a strenuous period, she was cleared to go to her new foster home. Once there, Lola began her long and arduous journey to recovery. 

Stabilizing her diabetes was our first priority. With regular insulin shots and a specialized diet, her glucose levels started to normalize. Her foster family diligently monitored her progress, making numerous trips to the vet for check-ups. Each visit brought hopeful news; her glucose levels were steadily improving, and she began to regain some weight.

Her progress over the next few months was nothing short of miraculous. By late autumn, Lola's diabetes was under control, and she had gained enough weight to undergo spay surgery and the removal of mammary masses. With each passing day, she grew stronger and more energetic. She was absolutely loving the fall weather and would frequently go outside to play with her foster siblings. Right before our eyes, this sweet girl began THRIVING, enjoying every new day regardless of what was in store. 

In the final stretch of her recovery, Lola hit her target weight, and her overall health was significantly improved. After months of care and nurturing her foster family decided to ADOPT HER permanently. Lola transformed from an emaciated, neglected dog to a loving and playful companion, thriving in her forever home. We are just SO happy for her.
