This precious Rottweiler/Shepherd mix puppy was the victim of a horribly botched tail-docking. When his owner surrendered the puppy to us, his eyes were swollen shut and leaking pus. We felt so sorry for him, heartbroken at all he had endured. But we are elated to now share that he has not only healed but has been lovingly adopted!
Sweet Ducky had a devastating start to life. Due to a language barrier, we couldn’t decipher exactly what had happened to him and by whom. But it was clear that someone—some cruel human who assumed that being one month old was old enough—cut up his tail. His tail, or what was left of it, caused him considerable pain. And his eyes, oozing with infection, deprived him of vision.
Ducky was barely a month old and already in so much pain, shrouded by darkness. The moment he was passed into our hands, we rushed him to the vet for urgent care. The medical team applied a generous amount of antibiotics to his poor eyes, working swiftly to clean them. He was also administered crucial pain relief and, of course, food and water.
Day by day, he began to heal, and even managed to open them a little. In the meantime, we kept a close eye on his chopped tail. The flesh wasn’t mending properly, and the possibility of an amputation loomed overhead. Additionally, we feared that his tail docking (something that is highly controversial and even outlawed in Australia and parts of the EU) was done without anesthesia or pain relief. We can’t imagine the trauma he endured just from this alone. We were just so fortunate that he was now safe in our care, where he would get the tender care he truly deserved.
As Ducky continued to heal, moving around a little more each day, he captured the hearts of just about everyone. The beautiful day came when we received an adoption application for Ducky, and it was deemed to be the most perfect fit! Right now, Ducky is being fostered, and once he turns four months old, he will be neutered. As soon as he recovers from this procedure and receives all of his shots and vaccinations, he will be transferred to his beautiful new home!
There’s a chance Ducky still cannot see—he stumbles through life, bumping into things. But we are thrilled to share that his eyes have healed, with no remnant of infection remaining. His tail, too, has recovered beautifully and without needing an amputation! Though it will always be no more than a little nub, Ducky doesn’t let this fact phase him, running freely and happily. Everything is truly looking up for this sweet baby, and we’re thrilled that he is no longer in pain and will forever be safe and cared for!
Thank you for being part of Ducky's remarkable journey. Because of you and everyone else at CUDDLY, a puppy who once knew only pain now has a lifetime of love ahead of him. Your kindness allowed us to keep going and find him the beautiful home he deserves. Thank you so much for never giving up on him and giving him a chance at a new life.
