Rain (FKA Sunday)

When we first discovered Sunday, we were heartbroken at the sight. She was severely injured with a fractured skull, nasal cavity, spine, and pelvis. Her tail had been degloved, broken, and she had a gaping wound on her head that bled uncontrollably. Sunday had fluid filling up her abdomen and pulmonary contusions. We could only guess the horrors she had faced.

Despite her horrific injuries, Sunday's spirit shone through. From the moment we rushed her to the Oradell Animal Hospital, in collaboration with our partners at Jersey Pits Rescue, Sunday showed a strong will to live. Her demeanor, despite her suffering, was docile and sweet. We all agreed - Sunday deserved a fighting chance at life, and we would do everything in our power to provide it.

On April 6—after weeks of treatment and preparation—Sunday faced surgery. It was a daunting challenge, but she came through as the true warrior she is. Her courage was a beacon, fueled by the overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers, and positive energy sent her way by her growing community of supporters.

But her journey was far from over. Sunday moved to a medical foster home to begin the slow and arduous road to recovery. With a broken pelvis, a fractured spine, and healing from a tail amputation and facial fractures, she required strict crate rest and a cocktail of medications to manage her pain. Yet even then, she was surrounded by the love she deserved, giving her the strength to keep fighting.

By April 22, Sunday had made remarkable progress. With the help of a carefully planned nutrition plan, pain management, and countless hours of rest, her condition improved considerably. Her incisions were healing well, her energy was returning, and her once troubling bowel issues were nearly resolved. Even her caretakers were astonished by her progress and moved up her expected recovery date. It was clear that Sunday was proving to be a survivor, embodying resilience, strength, and an unbreakable spirit.

Fast forward to June 10th, 2023, and the miracle we had all hoped for FINALLY happened. Our little warrior, Sunday, had found her forever home. But she was no longer just Sunday – she had a new name to match her new life: Rain. ❤️ She had fought, survived, AND triumphed over the worst of circumstances – emerging with a loving heart and a spunky spirit. And the best part?– Rain's new family includes one of her medical caretakers and a big brother, Rocky, who she absolutely ADORES.

From the moment we found her on those lonely railroad tracks to her final adoption, Sunday - now Rain's - story is a testament to the incredible power of love, resilience, and second chances. We are incredibly grateful for the support we received throughout her journey. Each and every contribution played a crucial role in saving her life. 

As Rain embarks on her new journey filled with love, warmth, and play, we are reminded of why we never give up. Her story is the EPITOME of strength—showing us that even the most broken can be made whole again and that EVERY animal deserves a chance at a better life.
