Your generosity has given this sweet boy a second chance. Once a bait dog subjected to unimaginable horrors, Trooper is now living in best life in the Florida Keys with his new family. Read on to find out how YOUR donations transformed his life.

Our rescue team was out on a routine patrol in South Florida when a trembling figure, covered in agonizing wounds, wandered up to us. We didn’t find him—he found us, desperate for help. Right away, we could tell he had been a former bait dog—he had been chewed and mauled to bits, covered in scars and even some fresh wounds. We don’t know whether he had been dumped or managed to escape. Either way, we would give him the healing care he needed.

We hurried Trooper into our car and booked it to the vet. There, his wounds were quickly tended to, but further testing revealed that he was in a silent battle for his life. Trooper had Leptospirosis, a dangerous bacterial infection, and was riddled with heartworm. Anemia had weakened him, and a host of parasites—hookworm, roundworm, tapeworm, and whipworms—drained whatever energy he had left. 

Trooper’s ailments were quickly tended to with a steady stream of medications, dewormers, and IV fluids. He undoubtedly had a long journey ahead of him, but we never left his side, giving him all the time and space he needed to recover and heal. Despite all that he had been through, Trooper’s spirit was still bright and alive, and he had boundless joy and energy. It was as though he knew that his beautiful new life was right around the corner. And he was right. Day by day, things were getting better. We were on the right track.

Today, we are elated to share that Trooper is healed from the inside out. He is free from the bacterial infection, the nasty parasites, and his wounds have healed beautifully. While there are still remnants of his scars, he is truly a stunning boy. He didn’t let his past hold him back, not for a moment. Soon after this grand milestone, a kind family fell in love with Trooper and welcomed him home. Today, he’s living a happy and healthy life in the Florida Keys with his new family, loved and cherished beyond measure.
