Rescue Pets In Need

According to the ASPCA, ?Approximately 6.3 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year.? With so many mouths to feed, Tift Animal Rescue, along with other rescues and shelters across the country are struggling to provide their animals with the food, shelter, and basic medical care that they need to survive.

Our organization is located in a very rural part of Georgia, and unfortunately, we have extremely limited capacity. Since January 2023, we have taken in over 1,840 animals. Given the overwhelming number of intakes, food is always in high demand. Our greatest challenge is always making sure that none of the animals in our care go to sleep with empty bellies.

Nine years ago, we began networking local shelter animals with potential adopters, doing our best to help as many as possible find good homes. We started as a team of two, and we are still a team of two today.  We both grew up locally and share a passion for animals and our community. Since our work started, we have decreased the shelter?s euthanasia rate from 90% kill to less than 10%

Sadly, many healthy animals wind up facing euthanasia in shelters due to a lack of space, funds, and resources. Animals that arrive at shelters sick or injured, although they are often treatable, are even more at risk of losing their lives. The more money shelters are forced to spend on food every week, the less money they have to put toward life-saving vet care.

Entering the shelter environment can be scary and overwhelming for many animals. Perhaps these innocent souls are coming from abusive or neglectful homes, or maybe they have spent most of their lives looking over their shoulders, surviving on their own on the streets. Being able to give these animals a meal and a soft place to rest their heads helps them to feel safe and secure.

Food is often the number one priority for rescue shelters, as the cost of keeping every belly full can be astronomical. July 24th, 2023 marked the beginning of National Feed a Rescue Pet Week. Tift Animal Rescue teamed up with Petcurean to prevent as many animals as possible from going hungry. We rely on the support of animal lovers to help us keep our furry friends fed, and the outpouring of support and generosity has been overwhelming.

We are so blessed to have such love and support from all of you!  The kindness and generosity shown by your donations have brought us to tears. We are incredibly grateful for the many contributions made in honor of Feed A Rescue Pet Week.  You have truly made a difference for the animals at Tift Co. Animal Shelter, and we can not thank you enough!

We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with CUDDLY and all the wonderful supporters like you helping us give back! TCAS can comfortably house 70 dogs and 60 cats. The shelter is usually well over those intake numbers, most of the time reaching double the capacity for both cats and dogs.  Because of this, there are always plenty of mouths to feed. Thanks to your support, these animals will be happy, healthy, and well-fed!

Although the official Feed A Rescue Pet Week has come to an end, shelters are always in need of food, and we encourage you to continue to help feed rescue pets whenever you can!
