Foguete

In the middle of nowhere, a little soul named Foguete was left to fend for himself at just three months old. Abandoned on the side of a lonely road, this tiny puppy's future was bleak and uncertain. A group of local boys would viciously kick him, cruelly taunting him due to the appearance of his patchy fur and scaly skin.  Being a puppy, Foguete didn’t understand what was happening and couldn’t escape the abuse.  However, the kindness of a compassionate passerby changed everything. 

When Foguete's rescuer first locked eyes with him, this little puppy's response was nothing short of heart-wrenching. Foguete ran to her, his little tail wagging desperately as if he knew he was being saved. Skin and bones, his fragile body had already lost most of its hair, leaving him vulnerable to the harsh elements. Despite his suffering, Foguete's spirit remained unbroken. This happy boy was ready to leave the pain of his past behind and begin on the path to recovery.

The call for help went out, and Protect Animals Worldwide answered. Thanks to your support, we were able to take Foguete into our care immediately. Our dedicated veterinarians conducted extensive diagnostic testing, which revealed that Foguete was suffering from Lyme disease. This brave little soul was also starving and dehydrated when he arrived at the hospital, making the need for immediate intervention even more apparent.

Foguete's agony didn't end there. A visit to the dermatologist revealed that he was battling demodex mange and a painful skin fungus. His skin was inflamed and hot to the touch, and he was plagued by an incessant itch that he couldn't escape. On top of these relentless infections, this sweet pup had bug bites scattered across his fragile body. However, Foguete's unwavering spirit shone through his discomfort. And so, Foguete's healing journey finally began.

By the beginning of October, Foguete had made remarkable progress in his battle against skin fungus and mange. His constant itchiness had significantly decreased, and his spirits were soaring. We learned that Foguete is incredibly playful, and never passes up an opportunity for games or snuggles. Foguete was still receiving medical care at the hospital to ensure he made a full recovery, and every donation continued to make a significant difference in his journey to health. 

Just a few weeks and many, many medicated baths later, baby Foguete's hair was already growing back, revealing his beautiful black and golden brown colors. He'd become quite the cozy nap-taker on his comfy mat and thoroughly enjoyed his playtime with the caring vet staff. But his ultimate joy came from his cherished stuffed monkey friend. Foguete continued his battle against Lyme disease, receiving treatment and supplements to combat anemia and malnutrition. 

By early November, Foguete was on the verge of completing his Lyme disease treatment and almost ready to begin his first-ever round of vaccines. Miraculously, his bloodwork showed no signs of anemia, marking a tremendous turnaround from his early test results. With weekly medicated baths, Foguete's skin issues had all but receded. What seemed impossible just a month ago was now becoming a fast-approaching reality: Foguete would soon be ready to find his forever home.

We had initially planned for Foguete to head to our sanctuary after he was discharged from the hospital, but fate had better plans for this sweet boy. In the middle of November, just as his treatment was wrapping up, Foguete was adopted by one of the incredible veterinarians who had nursed him back to health. She was his guardian angel throughout his journey to recovery, and we could not imagine a better forever family for this sweet boy. 

Foguete has settled in comfortably to his new home and is getting to know his two dog siblings who have welcomed him with open paws. This sweet boy is living the dream, pampered and adored day in and day out as every fur baby should be.
