Koda

One day Koda was wandering alone, lost and frightened, when suddenly she was viciously attacked. This strong girl miraculously survived the ambush with no helping hand in sight, but then was left to roam the desolate streets with a severely swollen head, utterly helpless. The blood from her festering wounds resembled a tar-like substance and smeared grotesquely across her innocent face.

After weeks, likely even months, Koda was finally spotted and retrieved by animal control. She was rushed to our vet's clinic, where the gravity of her condition became chillingly apparent. The veterinarian confirmed the wound was thankfully not from a gunshot but appeared to be a suspected bite mark. Wasting no time after her examination she was rushed into a life-saving blood transfusion. Koda's blood levels plummeted to a mere 8%, a fraction of the vital 37-60% range.

The bite-marked oozed pus, clotted blood, and required meticulous cleaning. After one night in the hospital, her swelling reduced significantly in size, but her battle was far from over, Koda was in critical condition and fighting for her life.

Further horrors unfolded as fecal examination revealed a rampant infestation of hookworms and roundworms. Still not released from the hospital, she was immediately administered a Panacur liquid treatment to combat the parasites along with antibiotics and pain medications. Despite the unfathomable ordeal, Koda exhibited a shocking resilience and had a strong appetite enjoying every bit of her nutritious wet food. Poor girl likely hadn't had a bite of food or morsel of water in months.

Koda was then put under intensive care where she was monitored around the clock. Her first morning in this unit went fine. She woke up in good spirits, so we decided to conduct her X-rays at that point. This, however, revealed breaks in her right ulna, radius, tibia, and fibula that were likely a couple of weeks old. At that point we realized her condition was even MORE serious than we had originally deduced.

After what probably felt like ages in the hospital, this sweet girl was finally released into the home of loving fosters. There she got a taste of what a forever home could feel like, and she lapped it up. She embraced kennel rest, playtime, and running around. Her spirit was shining brighter with each passing day as her bones and face began to heal.

Then, as if by a Christmas miracle, an adoption application for Koda was processed, and we were looking at the likely possibility that this sweet girl would get to spend the holidays in the loving embrace of a NEW HOME!

Koda’s happily ever after came true. RIGHT before the holidays, she was taken into the sweet and loving home of a gentle and kind family with plenty of backyard space and even a little canine friend for Koda to look up to. They are having the time of their lives this season, cuddling our sweet girl, showering her in toys, gifts, and adorable sweaters, and making her feel LOVED the way she deserves!

While we are sad to part with this innocent angel, we could not be happier at the beautiful little world Koda and her new family are creating for themselves. This sweet pup is DEFINITELY starting a new chapter! Isn’t it thrilling? And it’s all thanks to you! Through her CUDDLY campaign we were able to raise awareness, funds, and resources for this little pup. A heartfelt thanks goes to you all, her incredible army of supporters, whose generosity and care made this transformation possible!   Here's to a fantastic 2024 for Koda and all the new adventures that await in her loving home! 🐾✨
