Harper

After escaping a life of undeniable torture and horrific neglect, sweet pup Harper’s battered body told a harrowing tale of abuse and mistreatment. starving, flea-infested, and covered in wounds and scars, Harper was undoubtedly the victim of monstrous cruelty.

Not long ago, while on her mail route, a local mailwoman came across sweet Harper in horrendous condition. This poor girl’s haggard body was covered in wounds, both old and new. She had nasty, thick scars from where a collar or chain had dug into the skin around her neck, causing deep lacerations and tremendous swelling. Harper’s body was infested with fleas and ticks, and her frail skin hung from her skeletal frame. Swollen mammary glands indicated Harper was likely forced to produce numerous puppies.

We will likely never know the full extent of the harrowing details of Harper’s life and can only speculate about the horrors that she was forced to endure. It is possible that this innocent little girl was chained up her entire life and forced to breed for profit. She may have been physically tortured to ensure good behavior or even kept outside, day in and day out. Needless to say, we were heartbroken at the state this poor dog was in when we got to her, and we cannot imagine how someone could have allowed poor Harper to live in such awful conditions. 

The second we laid eyes on sweet Harper, we were determined to get her the care she had been denied for far too long. But we knew it was going to be an uphill battle.

After getting her checked in with a vet, it was evident that Harper needed EXTENSIVE medical attention. We had already begun her treatment to eradicate the fleas and ticks eating voraciously on her coat. But we also knew that her wounds needed to be treated ASAP so they could properly heal. 

The next phase of Harper’s care concerned her weight gain. If she had any chance of finding a loving home, we needed to help her get that up. 

With our dedicated team of medics and your generous support, we were able to get Harper on the right track by the early months of this past summer. She had almost completely healed from the worst of her neck cuts and was finally starting to gain weight!

Sweet Harper was getting used to the feeling of LOVE and lapping up every minute of it. She was being attended to in a safe, clean, and happy environment, where she was fed, got the opportunity to play, and got plenty of rest. 

Eventually, this precious little girl’s personality started to blossom, and we knew she was becoming the pup she was always meant to be. With the proper nutrition, calories, and 24/7, around-the-clock care—the real, playful, adorable Harper shone through, and she happened to be 20 pounds heavier, too! Thank goodness she was gaining weight. 

We were in awe. How could this girl, who has been through so much cruelty and abuse, still have so much love for humans, cats, and dogs? We have so much to learn from this gentle, forgiving soul. But as the clock ticked and she began to feel like herself again, she wondered if she would be lucky enough to find a forever home. 

She didn’t have to think for long because just before the start of the holiday season, an application was put in for Harper! 

And before we knew it, Harper was crossing the threshold of our shelter, this time leaving it. On the other end of her leash was a kind and caring mama human who was PUMPED to care for this sweet angel girl. 

While we are sad to part with this innocent angel, we could not be happier at the beautiful little world Harper and her new family are creating for themselves. They have spent an idyllic holiday together, and we could not be more happy that this sweet pup is DEFINITELY starting a new chapter! Isn’t it thrilling? And it’s all thanks to you! Through her CUDDLY campaign, we were able to raise awareness, funds, and resources for this little pup.
