Pandora

Found on a military base, Pandora's skin was literally peeling off as she clung to life. Our hearts ached for her. This sweet girl’s condition was nothing short of a nightmare.

She was found at the Camp Shelby Range Complex, her skin and fur peeling off, her ears oozing with infection, and heavy heartworm positive. Despite the excruciating pain she must have been in, Pandora rested her head in our hands, grateful for the touch of a caring human.

But sadly, her suffering didn’t end there. She was battling a severe staph infection, had lost most of her fur, and was burdened with intestinal parasites plus anemia. Our dedicated veterinarians at All Animal Clinic ran extensive blood tests and discovered alarming results, with an extremely high white blood cell count indicating a more complex underlying issue. Additional tests were sent to the lab, hoping to find answers, but Pandora's journey to recovery remained uncertain.

Directly after starting treatment, we saw stability in Pandora’s condition. But while she initially responded well to her antibiotic therapy, her white blood cells then started to jump back up, making her feel puny again.  During all of this, her body has been steadily producing red blood cells. Still, unfortunately, she seemed to be losing them as quickly as her little body could make them, so she was still anemic and teetering on needing a blood transfusion, scaring us that there was probably some underlying, more serious issue.

A couple of weeks later, her condition seemed to be improving. Pandora continued to amaze us every day with her unwavering determination. While her lab results still indicated anemia and other health issues, her vibrant personality and joyful barks returned, bringing immeasurable joy to all who fell head over heels in love with her at first sight. Our dedicated veterinarian suspected Pandora's skin condition was triggered by a severe, untreated flea or tick allergy.

Then, shortly after this check-in, vets revealed that Pandora’s white blood cell count was steadily decreasing, and her hematocrit levels continued to improve. While Pandora wasn’t completely in the clear just yet, as these values hadn’t reached the normal range, the veterinarians remained optimistic as her condition steadily improved. We put her in the books for another check-up at the two-week mark and looked forward to this (hopefully) final revelation!

While waiting for this appointment, we worked tirelessly to secure this sweet girl a loving home to go to after this was all said and done. Within minutes, we found the PERFECT match! It was like a miracle.

We are thrilled to share that Pandora has found her forever home and is thriving! She is deeply loved by her new owner, who has brought her by for visits, and it's clear she adores him in return. While Pandora will require ongoing monitoring by a vet, we are confident she is receiving the best care possible. We are incredibly grateful for the support Pandora received from CUDDLY supporters and everyone following her story. Witnessing her happily ever after is truly rewarding, and we are grateful to everyone who made it possible.
