Diamond

Diamond, a gentle soul, was discovered on the streets of southern California with blood staining her fur and a gaping wound marring her innocent face. She was shivering on the front porch with dark red blood pooling around her brain. This innocent girl was initially mistaken for a victim of a car accident, but the truth was far more horrifying.

After being rushed to the hospital, the extent of her suffering became agonizingly apparent. X-rays revealed a fractured skull. Vets concluded, gravely, that she was the victim of a savage assault. The tool used against this poor girl's head was either a machete or a sledgehammer.

As Diamond was being prepped for surgery, it became painfully clear that this poor pup had been subjected to a deliberate, malicious act of violence. How could anyone unleash such unfathomable torment upon a creature so pure and defenseless? Yet, amid the horrors inflicted upon her, Diamond's spirit remained unbroken; her eyes, although surely reflected the pain of her ordeal, also glimmered with a boundless capacity for love and forgiveness. Her gentle tail wagged in gratitude for every touch of kindness. She knew that she was finally in caring hands.

As Diamond embarked on her journey to healing, we knew that the road ahead would not be easy. She required extensive surgery and medical care to mend her shattered skull. In addition to this, she yearned for emotional support to heal from her deep-rooted trauma.

On the first night, Diamond did very well. We monitored her for any type of head swelling, yet found nothing to be concerned about. Placed on great pain medication, she seemed to be doing okay.  In time, thanks to the incredible surgeons who worked with us, Diamond left the emergency hospital. We monitored her extensively while she patiently waited two weeks to have her sutures removed. Everything seemed to be going in the right direction—until things took a turn for the worse.

Our sweet girl just couldn’t catch a break. We were so excited when Diamond was scheduled to be released from our vet and into the home of a medical foster. However, her foster quickly noticed swelling on her abdomen, so she was rushed back up to our vet. Our worst fears came to life: after a thorough examination, the vet said that her abdominal wall had opened up. Hastily, we rushed her into emergency surgery to re-close her wound and keep her intestines intact. It was difficult for us to accept that she had to be sedated again and forced to endure yet another surgery, but we knew that this was a matter of life and death.

Thankfully, our miracle girl did very well through surgery. They were able to successfully suture up the abdominal wall. Soon after, however, her incision had swelled again, this time with seroma, which is a build-up of fluid. We were grateful to learn that her sutures and intestines were still all intact; we just had to do warm compresses and keep her calm and comforted.

For quite some time, we waited enduringly for another caring foster to claim sweet Diamond and take her home to a safe and comforting refuge. We then released this sweet innocent baby for adoption when she was ready, but to no avail. We worried day and night that this sweet girl wouldn't be claimed. We despaired because we could see in her eyes how badly she wanted to be part of a loving family.  Then, one day, we received an application that seemed promising. But we didn't get our hopes up just yet! After a thorough interview process, we are SO happy to share the best news! You'll probably jump and down and cry tears of joy like us. Why, you ask?

Becuase Diamond is adopted! This girl found her FOREVER Home, and we couldn't be more ecstatic. She's so loved and cherished by her new family. Her new mommy and daddy simply ADORE her, and we’ve never seen her so happy!

This sweet pup truly is a miracle. Despite being brutally struck in the head, the gruesome act splitting open her skull, she has absolutely no neurological issues and has remained strong and happy throughout this entire recovery process. She was wagging her tail despite everything that happened to her and has given nothing but love and trust to every human, kid, and dog she has met. Her recovery and adoption were truly incredible to witness, and we are glad to be a part of her journey.

Diamond touched the hearts of many, and we are so grateful for all of the support we received so that we could give Diamond a second chance. We want to say thank you to our three amazing fosters who stepped up to help take care of this precious pup during her time of healing. And of course, we appreciate YOU and everyone at CUDDLY. Without your generous support, none of this would have ever been possible. So, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

Diamond, you are going to have the best life, and we cannot wait to continue watching your journey. We love you so much, sweet girl.
