Once sentenced to death due to severe deformities and mange, tiny Kayko has been transformed into a happy, healthy puppy!

Kayko's story began under dire circumstances—she was a mange-inflicted puppy with a rare growth disorder that led to severe deformities in her legs. Narrowly rescued from a high-kill shelter in January, she was the smallest of her nine siblings, weighing just 2.2 pounds. Initially, her condition seemed manageable, but within hours on one unsettling Saturday, her situation worsened dramatically. She showcased symptoms from nutritional deficiencies to respiratory complications and eye infections. 

Despite these challenges, our dedicated rescue team refused to give up on her. The decision to switch her diet to adult food marked the beginning of a meticulous, carefully monitored recovery process aimed at slowing her rapid growth to allow her bones to properly develop. Unable to find appropriately sized splints, the vet recommended customized options, so began daily laser therapy sessions to alleviate her pain and promote healing until the splints were ready. The inability to bask outside for natural vitamin D due to her lack of fur presented yet another hurdle, yet we creatively overcame it by providing specialized treatments.

With each passing week, Kayko's resilience shone through. She not only survived but thrived, ultimately defying the odds. Just seven weeks from her rescue, Kayko's once severe leg deformities had significantly straightened, her skin infections had healed, and she transformed into a healthy, 10-pound puppy full of life and energy.  Thanks the generous donations we received through our CUDDLY campaign, we were able to properly fund this baby's extensive care and provide her with the treatments she needed to restore her vitality! 

We were ecstatic to announce that Kayko has been ADOPTED by a loving new family! At long last, her story culminated in the ultimate reward: finding her forever home, where she quickly adapted, reveling in the affection and attention she'd always deserved.
