Kalvin

Kalvin's story began in the most harrowing way imaginable. He had been heartlessly chained to a vehicle and dragged for miles before being tossed to the side, ultimately left to die. When he was found, his body was marked by gaping, gruesome wounds and streaks of his own blood.

This precious boy was found on a busy highway, barely clinging to life. He was brought to a pound where he faced imminent euthanasia due to his grave condition. His tail still wagged, desperate for a chance at life. We couldn’t let him die like this and urgently rushed to save him from his terribly grim fate, transporting him to our rescue for immediate treatment. 

Once in our care, he was swiftly taken to our trusted vet, who has been a savior for countless emergency cases. Kalvin underwent an emergency amputation procedure to relieve him from his immense agony, and his remarkable will to survive continued to shine through. As he lay in the hospital, his wounds were cleaned and monitored round-the-clock. Miraculously, he tested negative for heartworm and his fecal test results were also negative. This marked the beginning of Kalvin's incredible transformation. 

Two days after the emergency amputation, Kalvin faced a setback when his stitches ruptured, causing his skin to painfully rip. Despite this, he continued to be strong, braving against the pain and amazing us all. Thankfully, this complication was resolved immediately after. He was soon released from the vet and transitioned into his foster home, where he started a new chapter in his recovery. We smiled with pure glee at every milestone he accomplished, every step moving him in a powerfully new direction.

However, the trauma he experienced left deep psychological scars. The mere sound and sight of moving vehicles triggered intense panic during his walks, causing him to cower in fear. His foster family quickly carried him away each time, offering comfort and reassurance. We are so sad to hear about his immense post-traumatic stress responses, but it is to be expected following the brutal cruelty he was forced to go through. Hopefully, these will ease over time, as he grows more comfortable around humans again.

Kalvin's recovery progressed day by day. His stitches were removed, though he still needed a cone to protect some of his still-healing wounds. By adding vitamins to his regimen, his skin quickly began to heal, and he slowly regained his strength. Kalvin blossomed in his foster home, finding joy in playing with other dogs and experiencing the love and care he deserved. 

Today, Kalvin's progress is absolutely remarkable, but it couldn’t have been made possible without your help. We are amazed at how far this adorable boy has come! He continues to overcome his past trauma and is well on his way to a full recovery. Through unwavering love and support, from our team and our beloved community, he has transformed from a victim of unspeakable cruelty to a symbol of hope and resilience. Kalvin’s story reminds us of the incredible spirit of animals and the impact that compassion, patience, and love can have on even the deepest wounds.
