Are you ready for a truly heroic story that will have you looking for your tissue?

Deirdre was once a shell of a dog, ravaged by abuse, starvation, and neglect. She was found in Cleveland, Texas, where her heartless owner just wanted to watch her suffer and slowly die! The moment we laid eyes on her, we burst into tears, unable to hold back our sadness, our despair, and our searing anger. The stench of death and decay that emitted from her rotting, necrotic flesh was almost unbearable; it is a smell that continues to haunt us now, and we hope to never experience such a nightmare again.

This precious Shepard was ravaged by starvation, severe mange, and a foul yeast infection, and her legs were so swollen with edema (excess fluid) that she could barely stand. We have truly never seen anything so gruesome, so terrible! Initially, we were there to rescue some puppies found on the side of the highway, but we simply refused to leave this girl behind. After some extensive negotiating with her cruel owner, we were able to pay him off, hastily taking Deirdre from his vile grasp.

Deirdre was immediately taken to a local animal hospital, where vets were shocked by her horrific condition. They quickly initiated a comprehensive report for the police so that such a monster could never lay hands on another animal again. After they fully assessed this poor girl, the situation just progressively worsened. Deirdre was emaciated, suffering from multiple infections, and tested positive for heartworm. We knew that we had a monumental challenge on our hands, but we were desperate to do everything we could to save her from her suffering.

In those early days, Deirdre leaned into her rescuers, trembling and seeking the reassurance she had never known. Her strength slowly returned as she received small, frequent meals and began medical treatments, including soothing baths for her damaged skin. She received medication for her yeast infection and her countless wounds were thoroughly bandaged to prevent further damage. Over time, her trust in people grew, and she learned to ask for attention and love. It was a long and treacherous process, but Deirdre was making great strides, and we were SO proud of her.

In the months that followed, Deirdre’s transformation was nothing short of miraculous. Under the dedicated care of her medical foster family, she began to gain weight and grew in strength. Her infections cleared, her mange healed, and her once-dull eyes began to shine with hope. There was a minor setback, however, when we realized she had a right ear hematoma (a collection of blood in the cartilage of the ear, usually a result of trauma). Hastily, she was provided crucial medicine to relieve her of this injury. Throughout all of this, Deirdre showed an indomitable fighting spirit, continuing to push through regardless of what came her way.

Though her journey to full recovery continued to be challenging, Deirdre was finally experiencing love and care for the first time in her life. During this time, she was receiving plentiful gifts and donations through her CUDDLY campaign, which allowed us to properly care for her, fund her medical treatments and procedures, and provide her with warm beds and blankets to soothe her during this lengthy recovery journey. She relished rolling in the grass, playing with toys, and enjoying nourishing meals in a safe, loving environment. We are absolutely amazed at the progress this sweet girl has made. It is truly a gift that she survived her harrowing ordeal and is now here with us today. None of this would have been possible without YOUR help!

Thanks to your generous donations through CUDDLY, Deirdre now has a chance at a happy life in a loving new family, free from the life of pain and torment that once overtook her. From everyone at Hoardin' Huskies, we thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. Deirdre is now living her absolute best life, and we couldn’t be happier!
